24 Peaks Challenge 2018
July 12, 2018
Between July 7th and 8th, Scandia Gear's 7-person team traversed England's Lake District as part of the 24 Peaks Challenge. Held annually, the Challenge raises money and awareness for Seafarers UK. Just like last year, the trek was an extraordinary experience defined by teamwork, magnificent views and, as promised, brutal exertion in the service of both a great cause and charity.
We arrived late in the afternoon the day before the Challenge started. We had an early carb-heavy dinner and, after resisting the temptation of an evening stroll around Ambleside, went to bed to ready ourselves for our 3:15-pick-up. After a short drive, event registration, briefing, and gear check, we were set for the trek's start at 5:00 am.
The Challenge's first day includes 10 of the event's 24 peaks, however it is, by far, the most demanding day. And while it took our team 17 hours to complete the first day's trek, we consider it an incredible achievement that we reached the finish as one.
That night's rest was mercilessly short but brought us into the second day with an astonishing zeal to push through the remaining 14 peaks. True to form, we finished that day, and the Challenge, as one team, one of only a handful of teams to do so. Truly amazing!
